Jhené Aiko Debuts Music Video for Soulful Single “None of Your Concern” Featuring Big Sean

Both Jhené Aiko, the R&B singer and rapper, Big Sean used to be a couple and collaborated under the name Twenty88. Since then, the two have parted but some of their songs are about breaking up and the feelings that remain even when the relationship is over. In fact, this new track, “None of Your Concern” both Aiko and Big Sean provide the ultimate emotional truth about the pain of moving on after a breakup. It really comes through with Aiko’s vocals and lyrics, “I’m not your girl anymore you need to watch your tongue. It’s none of my concern anymore. None of my concern. It ain’t even worth it no more. It ain’t even worth it. It don’t even hurt anymore. It don’t even hurt. It ain’t gonna work anymore. It ain’t gonna work.” She then continues, “I was traumatized, suicidal, sick and tired, I am not to blame.”

The track ends with Big Sean rapping and adding his two cents with vocals, “You know I had these issues when you met me. Results of the post damages that I haven’t dealt with. And I only want the best for you moving forward.” He continues with lyrics, “You know there’s not a day in these modern times you haven’t crossed my mind.” This puts a spin on the track, shedding some insight into how he feels. The song fades as he recaps his own experience which is a stark contrast against Aiko’s lyrics.

She describes relentlessly how she has moved on. In the video, the visuals are beautiful as Aiko is set in different styles in a tropical location with bamboo trees. She wears colors like bright yellow and blue set against a yellow house, while two cats eat peacefully. She describes the pain involved with a breakup and pushing back on setting boundaries in moving on. The difficulties of letting a man go who is no longer your official boyfriend and they still contact you, she clearly sets the line straight wit lyrics, “Get your bitch ass off of my phone, please leave me alone. I am not your girl anymore, you need to watch your tone.”

In the past, Aiko got giant tattoo of Big Sean’s face and had it covered up after they split up earlier this year. In May, Aiko released “Triggered (Freestyle),” which sure sounded like a Big Sean diss song, though she insisted that it wasn’t that. Big Sean released tracks, “Overtime” and “Single Again” while Aiko released Trip back in 2017 featuring Big Sean, Rae Sremmurd’s Swae Lee, Kurupt, Brand, Namiko Love, and more. The 85 minute album with 22-tracks had a psychedelic, free-flowing sound. Aiko released her debut album, Souled Out in 2014 which was also a collaboration with Big Sean.

Kelly Tucker: Originally from Los Angeles, I grew up listening to all types of music. My first concert was Aerosmith with Skid Row, then moved on to concerts with Metallica, Lollapalooza, Guns N’ Roses, Soundgarden and more. One of my favorite shows of all time was when I was in college and someone took me to see the Allman Brothers play. I also scalped a ticket to see Pearl Jam and the amazing Eddie Vedder sing his heart out. My professional career started in 2000 at Nielsen Business Media where I was an assistant in a sales department and later got promoted to advertising account executive. When the recession hit in 2008 and the magazine was sold, I took a job at a call center and later got promoted to assistant to the CEO and COO of a global company. In 2017, I took a position at a pharmaceutical agency, and now currently responsible for coordinating meeting logistics for physicians and pharma reps throughout the United States. In my spare time, I work at Peace4Kids a non-profit in South Los Angeles and write screenplays in hopes to make a breakthrough.
