Hip hop DJ and producer Eric B. has been released from two-week stint in jail, following his arrest on a warrant that dates as far back as 2002. The hip hop artist was one half of the legendary hip hop duo Eric. B & Rakim, who were prominent during the “golden age of hip hop” between the late 1980s and early 1990s, and a cast member of the television series Blue Bloods.
According to local news outlets and his attorney the artist became aware of this warrant last month after being questioned by state police in Vermont. Eric B. whose real name is Eric Barrier, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and resisting arrest and eluding law enforcement on Jan. 28, 2002 for an incident that occurred in Ridgefield Park about a year earlier.
According to court documents, A bench warrant was issued for his arrest after he failed to appear in court for sentencing on March 8, 2002. Attorneys state that Barrier did not know he was supposed to attend the sentencing hearing because he was “accepted into PTI (pre-trial intervention).”
Barrier reportedly stated that recent stint in jail put pressures on his current television career, and his attorneys expressed fears that his contract could be voiced if he was not released from jail.
“He advised me that his role on Blue Bloods will be compromised and he will likely have his contract voided if he is not released from the (jail) at this time to explain this entire situation to his producers/directors,” his attorney Patrick Toscano wrote.
A couple of years ago Barrier reunited with Rakim after a 20 year hiatus, and performed a set of spring tours across the United States as their iconic hip hop duo.
