Tame Impala and Clairo @ The Forum 3/10

Certain bands don’t feel like they’re ready for a stadium, or that they could ever even play one. At first glance Tame Impala was one of those bands. They played an off keel, sort of psych rock sound with a clear love for fuzzed out basslines and sound textures that tossed back to bands like The Flaming Lips. But it wasn’t until Currents that our perception of them shifted. Sure they were popular and exciting before all of that, but Currents repositioned them as rock superstars, in an era where rock gods are few and far between.

Tame Impala went through the ultimate skill test when they were asked to play a headlining set at the second day of Coachella in 2019. The results were far better than anyone ever could have expected. A massive crowd appeared, swarming the entire stage while groovy basslines and an awe inspiring array of lasers shot up into the sky. It turned up the party atmosphere while providing what was ultimately an excellent, straightforward rock show.

Supporting Tame Impala is Clairo, who has been a rising star for just about two years now. At only the age of 20, Clairo has made her mark as one of the most popular artists among the youngest audience, Gen Z. She’s accomplished this through innovative, relatable lyrics, and a melancholic, throwback sound that strips away the production and creates an air of intimacy.

Tame Impala will be touring throughout the beginning of 2020 in support of their upcoming record, which already has three singles “Borderline,” “It Might Be Time” and “Patience” all of which have been met with excellent critical acclaim. So take a shot at seeing the new album in all of its glory at one of the biggest venues in LA.
