Bauhaus reunited for their first pair of shows in 11 years on November 3rd and 4th at the Hollywood Palladium, where they performed classics such as “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” and “She’s In Parties.” This reunion didn’t just focus on their discography however, as the band went on to perform classic covers of tracks by David Bowie, Iggy Pop, T. Rex and John Cale.
Bauhaus opened their second night with a cover of John Cale’s “Rosegarden Funeral of Sores,” a track which originally appeared on Cale’s album Mercenaries (Ready for War). This cover is a Bauhaus staple since their beginning, appearing on a press of their “Telegram Sam” cover which was released in 1980.
The following covers all occurred during the band’s encore, with Iggy Pop’s “Sister Midnight,” kicking off as their first encore cover. The sing originally appeared on Iggy Pop’s classic album The Idiot, which was released in 1977, and written and recorded with the help of David Bowie.
Their following cover “Telegram Sam,” originally appeared on the T.Rex album The Slider, and has also been a staple of the Bauhaus’ career since the beginning. The original song was a hit in the UK, landing as T. Rex’s third number one single in the country.
Their final song of the night was a cover of Bowie’s classic “Ziggy Stardust,” originally featured on his most groundbreaking album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. Bauhaus’ version originally appeared on their 1980s album The Sky’s Gone Out.
Bauhaus will be hosting another reunion show at the Hollywood Palladium in December, following the sold-out performances.
“Those who were in attendance were treated to an inspired performance from the ‘grandfathers of goth,’ in which Peter Murphy connected with the audience with brooding stares and constant movement,” Ilana Tel-Oren explained in her review of the concert.
