Lost Bayou Ramblers – ASTEUR

A celebration of 20 years as a band

Cajun band, Lost Bayou Ramblers, celebrate their twentieth year with their documentary, On Va Continuer! and their newest album, ASTEUR. Both unveil the past and present of their careers. In Cajun French, ASTEUR translates to “at this moment,” while On Va Continuer means “we will go on.” Their style of Cajun, western swing and avant-garde are exhibited throughout the album and film. The band is comprised of six members including lead vocalist and fiddle player Louis Michot, Bryan Webre (electric bass player), Jonny Campos (electric guitarist), Andre Michot (accordion and lap steel player), Eric Heigle (acoustic guitarist and drummer) and Kirkland Middleton (drummer and percussionist).

The album showcases live performances by Lost Bayou Ramblers across seven venues in New Orleans. The band’s founding brothers told Elmore, “we could think of no better way to ring in 20 years as a band than with a live album recorded at some of our favorite venues in Louisiana.” Originally, the album was simply going to be a soundtrack to complement their ‘rockumentary,’ however, it developed into their third live album. The album also includes a few of their most popular unreleased live songs including “Steh” and “New Iberia Haircut”.

The track, “New Iberia Haircut” is combined with the song, “Bosco Stomp,” making it one of the most popular tracks on the album. The song begins with “Bosco Stomp” with Michot on the accordion, and as he speeds up his tempo, he is accompanied by the drums and percussionist. About halfway through the song, lead vocalist, Michot joins in singing “New Iberia Haircut.”

Aside from the live performances with a roaring and eager crowd, the fifteen-track album also includes four studio-recorded tracks, two of which are instrumentals without lyrics. Lost Bayou Ramblers mix genres including Western swing, rockabilly, punk and blues while keeping a crisp sound to spice up their Cajun vibe.
