Danish electronic producer Trentemøller has shared his video for “Foggy Figures,” off of his fifth studio album Obverse. The record will be the producer’s first project in three years, out now via his own label In My Room. Obverse will feature a diverse cast of collaborators including Slowdive’s Rachel Goswell, Warpaint’s Jenny Lee Lindberg, and Lisbet Fritze. Obverse was intially concieved as an instrumental album, before Trentemøller’s inspiration took a life of its own. The album can be described as a genre of its own, embodying a shoegaze, dream pop, synth-based soundscape enriched by the German Kosmische/Motorik experimentalist spirit. You can check out Obverse here.

“Foggy Figures” features lush pads and synthesizers that make you feel like you’re on an eerie journey through the same Scandinavian woods the video was shot in. The darkwave inspired rhythms deepen as the song progresses leaving the listener lost in their own train of thoughts. The video was shot in greyscale, which only escalates the spooky feeling you get while listening, and warps and distorts as the groove builds and progresses. Check out the video below.

Trentemøller was excited to share this video with his fans, claiming that his inspiration came from his Swedish vacation last summer. Saying this about the video, “I shot the visuals for Foggy Figures while staying in the Swedish woods with my girlfriend last autumn. One day we woke up to this foggy landscape, it was magical and I right away started shooting on my phone. I had just bought a device that works as a Steadicam, you just click the phone into it and then you can shoot with these floating movements. I really feel the walk in the dark and foggy forest captured the vibe in the song. Enjoy!”

On top of his first album in three years, Trentemøller also wrote and recorded for a short film with Lisbet Fritze that includes features from Sean Penn and Salman Rushdie, which can be found here.
