mxdwn PREMIERE: Bird Call Mixes Melody with Melancholy on New Song “Chroma Love”

After a six year wait, Chiara Angelicola’s Bird Call is ready to release a new album called Year of the Dogfish. Her last album came out in 2013 and in the time since she’s gone through some significant life experiences, including a breakup with her partner, a move down the California coast from the Bay Area to Los Angeles, and even the loss of her 15-year-old dog. The result is a batch of songs that showcase her battles over the years from 2016 to 2018 and today we’re premiering the latest song, a synth-ed out pop song called “Chroma Love” that layers hook on top of hook and features excellent instrumental depth.

For “Chroma Love” Angelicola pushes the synthesizers to the front of the mix, with a variety of other players joining her. The track features Kirk Schoenherr on electric guitar, Chris Egan on drums, Daniel Foose on electric bass and Adam Schatz on alto saxophone. The sax in particular adds a welcome layer of color to the chorus, which features the vocalist repeating the song title over and over again.

Previously released singles from Year of the Dogfish include “Soliloquy” and the title track. The album will be released on November 8, 2019 via Papavero Records.
