Bohren & der Club of Gore Announce New Album Patchouli Blue for January Release

German ambient/jazz band Bohren & der Club of Gore are releasing, at the top of next year, their tenth studio album Patchouli Blue. Their latest single “Sollen es doch Alle wissen” displays dark, yet easy listening smooth lounge jazz scene that paints the picture that Bohren & der Club of Gore are not resting on their laurels. As stated in a press release, Bohren & der Club of Gore whose music the online publication “…Pitchfork described as a combination of ‘lounge jazz, dark ambience, the languorous adagios of classical-music requiem, and the saturated romance of Italian film soundtracks,’” release Patchouli Blue on Jan. 10 via Ipecac Recordings.”

“Sollen es doch Alle wissen” is a solemn jazz track that with its somber ambience embodies the essence of the art form. It’s mystique and majestic tones lingers like a room full of cigarette smoke long after it’s played. From the outset of the track, the saxophone pierces the listeners ear, so evocative that there is a sense of pain in the musical composition setting the tone for the remainder of the song. When the piano and the bass kicks in, the listener gets caught up in the rapture that is both romantic and mysterious.

The current roster of band members in Bohren & der Club of Gore’s German outfit include Christoph Clöser (saxophone/piano/Fender Rhodes electric piano/vibraphone), Robin Rodenberg (bass guitar/double bass) and Morten Gass (synthesizer/mellotron/organ/Fender Rhodes electric piano/8-string bass/vocoder). Bohren & der Club of Gore’s Patchouli Blue, released courtesy of Ipecac Recordings, “…is the band’s follow-up to 2014’s Piano Nights, and the outfit’s fifth album to arrive via the San Francisco-based label.”

Speaking collectively about the forthcoming project Bohren & der Club of Gore had this to say:

“Dear friends of music where hardly anything happens, Bohren & der Club of Gore is happy and proud, to announce their new album. You may have already given up hope, but miracles happen: Patchouli Blue – instrumental, slow, uneventful – as always. Love it, hate it, listen to it.”
