The beautiful new track “Harmony” from Ali Shaheed Muhammad, Adrian Younge, featuring Loren Oden is a single from their new album, set to release early 2020. The song’s tempo is unique with vocals that melt into the blend of jazz movement. You are taken aback with this new track as bass, light drums, horns, violins and keyboards lend their way in building the perfect sound. The intro builds up then cascades here and there, all while the vocals are soft and don’t overtake the harmony that ensues.
The Midnight Hour is a 10-piece, highly skilled ensemble, which truly performs at the highest level and that is putting it mildly. Their music seems to fall onto you, gifting your ears a listen. Each song is masterfully crafted and not challenging to listen to in its entirety. The ensemble is led by Ali Shaheed Muhammad (A Tribe Called Quest) and Adrian Younge and includes their jazz rhythm and orchestral sections which magically weave their instruments together in each song.
Described as sophisticated hip hop, The Midnight Hour is Black Excellence: a cultural ode to the Harlem Renaissance established for its people. The Midnight Hour’s fall tour kicks off in Memphis, Tennessee on Saturday, October 19 and concludes on November 21 in Los Angeles, for a show at The Lodge Room. The tour features a very special collaborative opening set featuring vocalists Loren Oden, Angela Muñoz and guitarist Jack Waterson.
Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Adrian Younge did the score for Netflix series Marvel’s Luke Cage. “Harmony” is the first new single off their upcoming second album, set for release in early 2020. Both Ali and Adrian agree this is “a song for those that have felt a special spark of love, in the moment.” In addition to their album, The Midnight Hour, Younge’s Linear Labs is set to release debut albums from Oden and Muñoz.
Earlier this year, The Midnight Hour also performed live for Amazon Music’s Produced By series, curated and produced by Younge. Performances included the songs “Noir” featuring The Roots’ Black Thought Estelle’s performance of “Home” and Georgia Anne Muldrow & Terrace Martin’s “February”.
