Atlanta based garage rock band the Black Lips have released a new track entitled “Odelia,” from their forthcoming 2020 album release, which has yet to be titled. The band are also set to begin touring tomorrow, with their first stop taking place at the Top Hat Lounge in Missoula, Montana, before finishing off at the paper tiger in San Antonio, Texas.
“Odelia,” takes a strong country and blues rock inspired vibe, however it is presented in a lo-fi recorded setting, which gives it a garage rock edge. This track, along with the rest of the album were recorded at the Valentine Recording Studios, and where the new songs were recorded direct to 2″ tape with engineer and co-producer, Nicolas Jodoin.
The new album is set to be released via Vice records, which has released every album for the band since 2007’s Good Bad Not Evil. The group’s most recent album Satan’s Graffiti or God’s Art, was released back in 2017.
“Although the album can be incoherent and absurd at times, perhaps the point is that the band want the listeners not to seek out a point but just absorb what is played,” Melody Teng wrote in a review for mxdwn.” To repeat a clichéd and oft-repeated saying: ‘The journey is more important than the destination.’ The question ‘Satan’s Graffiti or God’s Art?’ suddenly doesn’t seem all that important anymore. Rather, one should just enjoy the adventure and forget about labeling what is art and what isn’t.”
The band’s former guitarist,Ian St. Pé also released an album as Saint Pé entitled Fixed Focus.
