Rock supergroup Oysterhead, which features bassist Les Claypool of Primus, guitarist Trey Anastasio of Phish and drummer Stewart Copeland of The Police, have announced their first live performance in 13 years. The group is set to perform at two shows on February 14th and 15th 2020 at 1st Bank Center in Broomfield, Colorado.
Tickets will go on-sale Saturday, October 19 at 10am MDT, however a limited amount of tickets were available at this site. Their last live performance was in Bonnaroo 2006, in Manchester, Tennessee. The band’s most recent performance before this was in 2001, at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center, in Gainesville, Florida.
Their only album, The Grand Pecking Order, was released back in 2001. The album was a mediocre commercial success debuting at number 41 on the Billboard 200, and received some mixed reviews between critics.
“This thirteen track schmedley is a cornucopia repetitive riff after riff of admittedly skilled guitar licks bouncing as though intoxicated off of hammered bouncing bass lines while the drums attempt to musically detox the rest of the music with a hyper-logical rhythm, interwoven with the occasional synth/moog induced space noise,” Brian Small, a former mxdwn reviewer wrote upon the album’s release.”Lyrically, the album evokes that kid who sat behind you in class saying anything he could think of that would bug you out in that voice- uurgh, that voice. The overall effect is something out of a science fiction novel written in the Bible belt.”
The band have also teased the words “when all else has been done and said,” on their Instagram page, in reference to their track “Mr. Oysterhead.”
