Beloved lounge-pop multi-instrumentalist Shintaro Sakamoto will, unfortunately, be missing his spot tonight at Desert Daze 2019 due to the typhoon currently wreaking havoc in his home country of Japan. Typhoon Hagibis has already grounded thousands of flights from Tokyo’s Haneda Airport according to the South China Morning Post. The singer-songwriter was scheduled to perform at 7:45 pm local time on the “Block” stage. The performance was set to be part of Sakamoto’s U.S. tour and Desert Daze organizers were quick to let fans know on Instagram:
Indie-rock band Ride will be replacing Sakamoto this evening. The group released their latest album This Is Not a Safe Place this year and will be bringing their grand atmosphere with them. Typhoon Hagibis continues to displace people in Tokyo’s major metropolitan area; we wish all those affected well and keep them in mind. Desert Daze’s final day is underway now.
