The Eagles who have sold more than 150 million albums since the ’70s, will be performing their infamous album, Hotel California in its entirety for their upcoming 2020 tour which will take place in Atlanta, New York, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles and San Francisco. The Eagles recently blew fans away performing three sold out shows in Las Vegas, Nevada doing the album, Hotel California in its entirety, along with 77 musicians on stage, including a 46-piece orchestra and a 22-voice choir.
The Eagles consist of iconic band members, Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit, with Deacon Frey and Vince Gill. For their upcoming tour, each night’s concert will feature a “Hotel California” set, with an accompanying orchestra and choir, followed by an additional set of the band’s greatest hits.
The Vegas show was described, “The band performed the album from front to back, following with a blazing greatest hits set that had the audience at the sold-out arena constantly on its feet… a 23-song set of solid hits that make up the soundtrack of any Baby Boomer or Gen X’ers lives. With no exception, the songs have aged well, but how could they fail with the Eagles’ five-part harmony and five guitar-approach… (Henley’s) voice sounded as strong and pliant as it ever has, easily hitting the highest of notes, while retaining his trademark huskiness.”
Hotel California is the third best-selling U.S. album in history, certified 26-times Platinum by the RIAA. After its release in 1976, it topped the charts and won two Gramy Awards for “New Kid in Town” and “Hotel California.” Several of the songs from the album have never been performed since the original “Hotel California” tour. The band’s Their Greatest Hits 1971-1977 is the best-selling U.S. album in history, with the RIAA certifying the collection at 38-times Platinum.
The Eagles scored six #1 albums and topped the singles charts five times. They won six Grammy Awards, were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1998 and received the Kennedy Center Honors in 2016. Henley said in a Rolling Stone article about the “Hotel California” track in its infancy, “I think I was driving down Benedict Canyon Drive at night, or maybe even North Crescent Drive (adjacent to the Beverly Hills Hotel) the first time I heard the piece, and I remember thinking, ‘This has potential; I think we can make something interesting out of this.’”
