Swans Release Ominous New Song “Hanging Man”

Swans have debuted a new track entitled “Hanging Man,” from their upcoming album release Leaving Meaning, out via Young God Records on October 25 on double vinyl, double CD and digitally. This latest single follows up from the band’s previous single “It’s Coming It’s Real,” that accompanied the original album announcement last month.

“Hanging Man,” features more of the stripped back sounds that were displayed on the previous single, utilizing large symphonic sounds through a string orchestra, and a choir throughout this heavily experimental 10 minute and 48 second track. This song features many different pounding guitar chords and piano lines, giving the song an eerie feel throughout its run time.

Leaving Meaning is going to be the first album released by Swan’s new line-up, the band’s only consistent member is Michael Gira, who dissolves every previous iteration of the band’s line-up. Gira recently release What Is This? a handmade CD featuring acoustic versions of the songs from the new album.

Leaving Meaning is the first Swans album to be released since I dissolved the lineup of musicians that constituted Swans from 2010 – 2017,” Gira stated in a press release. “Swans is now comprised of a revolving cast of musicians, selected for both their musical and personal character, chosen according to what I intuit best suits the atmosphere in which I’d like to see the songs I’ve written presented. In collaboration with me, the musicians, through their personality, skill and taste, contribute greatly to the arrangement of the material. They’re all people whose work I admire and whose company I personally enjoy.”
