Kate Tempest has released a new animated video for “Peoples Faces,” from her latest album The Book of Traps and Lessons, released earlier this year. This latest music video was directed by Natalya Lobanova at Thiing Studios, and follows the conclusion of her recent tour earlier this year.
The recent track highlights the singer’s political themes, as the singer discusses the pain and agony that those afflicted by poverty and oppression face. The visual hosts only two colors, black and white, showing animated scenes of UK public housing towers, homelessness and various other images displaying urban life in the UK.
The Book of Traps and Lessons, places Tempest’s lyrics at the forefront, accompanied by strong orchestral instrumentals that highlight the performer’s unique blend of spoken word poetry and hip hop that are unique to her own experience. “Kate Tempest is the words,”she explained regarding the album.
“All I can say is that I hope it connects. I think that’s all you can really hope for a piece of work. To have some connecting power. That people connect with themselves when they hear your experience and that it helps them connect with everyone around them,” Tempest explained in her recent interview with mxdwn. “That’s why I love making music. I don’t know what questions I want them to ask but I hope they recognize the elements of those experiences and feelings that help them connect.
This single follows up from the releases “Holy Elixir,” and “Firesmoke,” which debuted in June and April of this year rsespectively.
