The Mayer Hawthorne led musical duo have just announced a new seven-inch vinyl release for Record Store Day Black Friday, on November 29th. This record will feature two previously unreleased tracks “Get The Money” featuring legendary R&B performer Ceelo Green and “Own Thang” featuring legendary R&B group Tony! Toni! Toné!
“Get The Money,” will be the proper title for this single as the a-side, with “Own Thang,” taking the spot as the physical single’s B-side. This upcoming Funk on Sight record will be an exclusive Record Store Day release, with only 2000 copies hitting the shelves for the upcoming nationwide event.
Tuxedo is the brainchild between Hawthorne and Jake One, who are noted for their unique blends of pop and funk, with Jake One handling most of the production and Hawthorne as the vocalist. The duo released their Tuxedo III album earlier this year, which held features from Gavin Turek and legendary rapper MF Doom
“It’s apparent that a ton of attention was given to the aesthetic of this record, and it is undeniably their best sounding album to date; the production is sleek, but not soulless,” mxdwn reviewer Ty Ribarchik began, later adding:” The instrumental palette on this album is perfectly tailored to the late-‘70s/early-‘80s vibe Tuxedo seeks to evoke, any track on this record would fit perfectly on a “Disco Hits” compilation.”
Prior to this release the duo dropped the dance floor ready anthem “The Tuxedo Way,” which highlights the duo’s emphasis on retro synths and pop oriented lyrics.
