Detroit rapper Danny Brown debuted his sixth studio album, uknowwhatimsayin¿, today and we might not have to wait long for another one. The rapper said in an interview with Dazed, that he is hoping to drop another album within a year. He goes on to talk about his relationship with executive producer Q-Tip, crediting the legendary producer for helping him rejuvenate his relationship with rap. Stating that the Tribe Called Quest member, Q-Tip, is his new lifelong partner in production, wanting him to produce all his future albums. Claiming that the two are becoming closer friends, the follow-up album to uknowwhatimsayin¿ will be much better and that it is coming within a year.

Brown has developed a reputation for living life to the absolute extreme, often being considered somewhat of a provocateur. His music is heavily influenced by his alleged substances use, and his distorted perception of reality allows him to let the listener develop a feeling of emotional dissonance by painting a portrait of exactly what he’s trying to escape from. In his song, “Die Like a Rockstar”, he boasts, “I’m Fried off the same sh*t that Rockstar’s died from!” Further proof of Danny Brown’s extreme living is present in his albums, XXX and Atrocity Exhibition, when the rapper goes on to joke about the amount of drugs he’s around.

However, his most recent album, uknowwhatimsayin¿, is a pleasantly surprising departure from his typical twitchy punk style records. This album shows the growth that Danny Brown has made as a musician. Admitting he’s lost a lot of opportunities in the music industry for his reputation as a drug rapper, he’s excited about the growing up he’s done from his previous albums. In the interview with Dazed he goes on to say, “The new album is about stripping away everything that people expect from a Danny Brown album and to see if I can still be dope, It’s like, yes I am motherf*cker, because I can really rap, you know what I’m saying?” uknowwhatimsayin¿ is available on all music streaming services as well as available for purchase on iTunes.
