Today is the start of National Bullying Prevention Month across the nation, a time to bring awareness and attention to bullying prevention. While when we think about bullying our minds typically go to school-age children, it’s a problem for anyone that’s been marginalized or abused by another. In conjunction with the anti-bullying campaign, pop singer Adara has released a song and video for “Alien” that is certainly relatable to anyone who has felt alienated. We’re excited to premiere the video for this uplifting song which is inspired by the stories of Adara’s own fans.
The video opens with a simple message. Earlier this year in April, Adara asked her fans to send her personal stories of their struggles with bullying. The singer says that she “wrote and wore the words” on her suit. In the video, she wears a skin-tight white catsuit with various messages written in black Sharpie. As the churning bass line leads off the song, one of the first messages that comes into focus says “I feel pretty strange. I was made to stand out.”
The song builds up to its dramatic chorus, with Adara launching into it after singing “I’m just an alien.” According to the singer, “Alien” is about the understanding that there are other people going through similar struggles and finding inner self-worth. The video was directed by Cooper Brown and produced by the Lux Collective.
Adara first made waves in the world of EDM, getting support from well-known artists like Armin Van Buuren and The Chainsmokers. Now she’s working on her pop career, creating lush arrangements and massive choruses that are inspired by artists like Lady Gaga and Sia.
