Chvrches have released a new track “Death Stranding,” which serves as the title track for the upcoming Hideo Kojima developed videogame of the same name. The indietronica act joins the likes of Major Lazer, Khalid and Bring Me The Horizon, on the game’s soundtrack Death Stranding: Timefall, out November 7th via RCA Records.
“Death Stranding,” features a passionate vocal performance from the band’s frontwoman Lauren Mayberry, along with upbeat synths, that provide a bright texture to the song’s over all sounds. These elements fit in perfectly with the song’s nostalgic atmosphere, which borrow elements of traditional videogame soundtracks.
Kojima is best known for his eclectic writing style, which is a major focal point of his past videogames such as the Metal Gear series. His writing pulls from a variety of American action films, loaded with eccentric characters and dialogue, accompanied by numerous off-the wall moments.
“We were really excited about the opportunity to work with Kojima because we have been fans of his work for a long time. He has always been such a visionary in the gaming world and we were honoured to be involved in the project,” the band stated in a press release. “The concept of ‘Death Stranding’ is so unique and really felt to us like it was challenging people to care about the world they create — in the game and otherwise. We wrote this song specifically for “Death Stranding”, thinking of the themes of the game and what it is trying to say to people.”
Chvrches are set to make an appearance at the Intersect Festival later this year. Mayberry previously covered Frightened Rabbit’s, “My Backwards Walk,” with The National in honor of the band’s late frontman Scott Hutchison.
