Pixies & Kristin Hersh @ Troubadour 12/2 & 12/3

The Pixies

What year is it? No honestly what year is it? Because Pixies are playing at The Troubadour and I’m no longer sure if we didn’t reappear in the ‘80s. All the cool tech around me seems to indicate that this isn’t the ‘80s but I’m not sure I believe it. Because Pixies are playing at The Troubadour and that’s got my timeline all messed up.

So provided that we are indeed in the current year and nothing has gone wrong with the time machine I was workin… scratch that you heard nothing. Anyways, if we are still in the same year then some of you may need some background on Pixies. They’re one of those bands that if you were born after say… 1995, may not have been the most popular band to you, but they probably influenced every band you liked. Nirvana, Radiohead, Weezer, yeah all that is due in at least some part to the Pixies. They’re most famous for noodling with a “loud-quiet” style of music in which some parts would be loud and others were, well, quiet. If nothing else you’ve probably heard a song off of Surfer Rosa or Doolittle, they sounded kinda like this…

Their offbeat style and surreal lyrics would go on to pioneer the genre of alternative rock, something that blew up just as the band broke up in the early ‘90s. Even still their powerful influence still lingers on today. And with their latest lineup, they’ve successfully reunited and have put out a three new albums since 2014.

This concert at The Troubadour comes in support of their latest album Beneath the Eyrie which released on September 13th 2019. And features the singles “On Graveyard Hill,” “Catfish Kate” and “St.Nazaire.” Opening the show is Kristin Hersh of Throwing Muses and 50FootWave who has supported them throughout the tour. Unfortunately tickets sold out within minutes of going on sale, but snatch one up from a reseller for an intimate show with one of rock’s most influential acts.
