Josh Homme Announces Desert Sessions 11 & 12 Featuring Billy Gibbons, Carla Azar, Les Claypool, Stella Mozgawa and More for October 2019 Release

Queens of The Stone Age mastermind Josh Homme has officially announced Desert Sessions Volumes 11 & 12, which were teased earlier this month. This upcoming compilation will be released via Matador Records on October 25th.

Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top , Les Claypool of Primus, Stella Mozgawa of Warpaint, drummer Carla Azar and Jake Shears of Scissor Sisters have been confirmed for this release, as well as Mike Kerr of Royal Blood, Matt Sweeney, Matt Berry of What We Do in the Shadows, Libby Grace and Töôrnst Hülpft

This session was recorded last year in Joshua Tree, California, in a desert recording studio named Rancho De La Luna. Homme has recorded over 10 Desert Sessions in Joshua Tree over the past two decades. The performer teased this recent set of releases earlier this year via Instagram, before they were picked up by a New York Times report.

This is Homme’s first desert sessions album since the release of Volumes 9 & 10 over 16 years ago.  These sessions included PJ Harvey, Ween’s Dean Ween, former Nine Inch Nails touring member Jeordie White, Eleven’s Alain Johannes, Queens of the Stone Age’s Troy Van Leeuwen, and former Danzig member Joey Castillo.

A press release explains:

“The results are eight new songs that embody the legacy of freedom from expectations and inhibitions that stretches back to 1997, when Homme led a first retreat to the Joshua Tree desert. What began as a casual writing and recording session amongst friends—isolated from daily distractions and comforts—has since become a possibly infinite body of work. ”
