New York City experimental rock outfit Battles have just released two new songs “A Loop So Nice…” and “They Played it Twice,” featuring Xenia Rubiños on vocals. These two tracks are featured on the band’s upcoming studio album Juice B Crypts, which will be out on October 18 via Warp Records.
The tacks appear simultaneously, and flow from “A Loop So Nice…” into “They Played It Twice,” featuring eclectic electronic beats, along with jumpy synth lines that take the listener to an eclectic ride. Xenia Rubiños soulful vocal delivery compliments the track well, as she sings to match the tone that the instrumentals set.
While Dave Konopka left the band last year, the band have been putting in a ton of live work and studio work as a duo featuring Ian Willians and John Stanier. Although originally formed as an experimental rock band, with some elements of math rock, the band has a history of putting electronic sounds into their music, which is present on these two latest tracks.
“It’s almost a selfish thing to say, but I’ve always been pursuing a certain path in what I’m trying to accomplish while making songs, only for the people around me to then change,” Williams explained in an interview with The Skinny. “To me, the fact that it’s not going to be the same now is actually the reason to keep doing it. That’s the interesting part, but the overarching point of making new music is still the same.”
