Experimental rock band Mr. Bungle have announced their tour openers, for their first reunion shows in over 20 years. Cattle Decapitation, Possessed, Hirax, the Melvins, Ho99o9, Cunts and Spotlights are set to perform across these select shows next winter.
“Putting these shows together it occurred to us that this was a great opportunity to expose unsuspecting audiences to some of the absolutely legendary thrash, death metal and hardcore bands that originally inspired us in the mid 80s,” explains the band’s guitarist Trey Spruance. “And if we’re going to do that, why not re-unite with some of the equally legendary bands we were close with in the 90s? And why just concentrate on the past? Of the current bands that have taken some kind of inspiration from the heavier side of Mr. Bungle in doing their own thing, why not invite the select few that have managed to inspire us back?”
Scott Ian of Anthrax, along with drummer Dave Lombardo will be joining the group’s core trio of Spruance, bassist Trevor Dunn and lead vocalist Mike Patton. The band will also be performing their 1986 self-produced, self-released demo album The Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny in full during this tour.
Ho9909 and Hirax will be opening the tour during their first performance at the Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles on February 5th. Ho9909 released a hardcore punk and trap infused single “Street Power” last year.
Cattle Decapitation will open the next night with Neil Hamburger on February 6th. The group are currently on their Geocidal Tendencies tour alongside Full Of Hell, who will open the show for Mr. Bungle at Brooklyn Steel on February 10th, and Author & Punisher.
The Melvins and Cunts will be opening the tird and final night in Los Angeles on February 7th. The Melvins released the track “Hot Fish” earlier this year. They are also currently on tour with Redd Kross.
Cunts had faced some tragic news earlier this year, when it was announced that band member and guitarist Michael Crain was diagnosed with cancer.
