Scottish indie rock band Belle & Sebastian have released a new video for “This Letter,” which is featured on the band’s most recent release Days of the Bagnold Summer. This new video stars the band’s frontman Stuart Murdoch and stars Glasgow three-piece Wet Look.
The visual begins with Belle & Sebastian performing in a video shoot, before the camera pans to one of the members of Wet Look, and eventually the three members together. This video was shot with a DIY aesthetic using vintage film reels, that compliment the soft acoustic guitar based indie track well.
“This Letter,” was made after the debut of the band’s first inaugural cruise event Boaty Weekender, an event that featured numerous other acts including Mogwai, Django Django, Alvvays, Buzzcocks, Japanese Breakfast and Hinds. Guests during this cruise sailed from Barcelona, Spain to Cagliari, Sardinia then back to Barcelona
“After the Boaty Weekender I got the chance to make another video,” says Murdoch in a press release. “With limited time, I called upon 3/4 of boat mates Wet Look to help me out. They play three tired film crew people, who just made a Belle and Sebastian video – but they quite fancy having a go at filming themselves, so they get hold of Super 8 cameras, and start messing about.”
Days of the Bagnold Summer serves as the soundtrack for the film of the same name, which was released via Matador Records on September 13th.
As mxdwn reviewer Ally Tatosian explains:
“Belle and Sebastian take Days of the Bagnold Summer and run with it. Without straying too far from what they know best, the band has created a solid piece of music that does fit nicely with the rest of their discography.”
