Lights is back with a new song today, a track with drummer Travis Barker of Blink 182 called “Live Long.” The acoustic ballad features finger-picked guitars and yearning electronics in the background, giving it a sentimental pop touch. After the first chorus, the verse picks up a little steam with a more Travis Barker-esque drum beat, though it’s still one of the more simple and subdued beats from the percussive legend.
According to a press release, the song is an ode to Lights’ debut album, The Listening. That album came out 10 years ago on September 22, 2009 and is now available on vinyl for the first time ever.
“If you would’ve asked me when this record came out what I thought I’d be doing in ten years, I’m not sure I would’ve pictured the world that we built here,” said Lights. “The community that I’ve found in you all has truly shaped me into what I am today.”
Lights is currently on tour with EDM superstar deadmau5, where she is making guest appearance during his Cube3 stage show. We recently covered deadmau5’s performance in Dallas, which of course featured Lights.
Last year Lights released her album Skin&Earth, which featured an accompanying graphic novel. Then this year, she returned with an acoustic version of the album, taking the blaring electronic-pop source material and transforming it with lush, beautiful arrangements.
