A new batch of unreleased tracks recorded by folk legend Bob Dylan and country legend Johnny Cash are set to be unearthed as part of the Bob Dylan (featuring Johnny Cash) – Travelin’ Thru, 1967 – 1969: The Bootleg Series Vol. 15 compilation album. This project is set to feature some unreleased tracks recorded by the two legends, during the height of their careers, and will be released on November 1st.
During the mid 1960s Dylan took a brief withdrawal from public life, in an era where pop music began to get increasingly more psychedelic. During this period Dylan approached a more minimal sound, and took off to Nashville, were he recorded several tracks with the country music icon.
“Talking to journalist Matt Damsker about the sound of John Wesley Harding, Dylan said, ‘I didn’t know how to record the way other people were recording, and I didn’t want to… I just didn’t think all that production was necessary.’ He also went for lyrical economy,” Colin Escott, who wroter the liner notes for this upcoming compilation explained.”What I’m trying to do now is not use too many words,’ he said. ‘There’s no line you can stick your finger through. There’s no blank filler.'”
These songs were recorded from 1967 to 1969, and five of the tracks also feature legendary guitar player and rock pioneer Carl Perkins. This new compilation will be available on digital, as a triple pressed CD and as a triple pressed vinyl as well.
