Trance legend and DJ Paul Oakenfold is joining in on the “Storm Area 51 Basecamp” fun tomorrow, and will be performing a psytrance set at the Alien Research Center gift shop, off Extraterrestrial Highway in Hiko, Nevada. This event will also host guest speakers and ufologists including Ken Layne, “UFO Jane” Kyle, Retired USAF Master Sergeant Jim Goodall, Rick Doty and “Rogue Warrior” Dick Marcinko, in addition to Netflix documentary Bob Lazar: Area 51 & Flying Saucers‘ director Jeremy Kenyon Lockyer Corbell.
The Storm Area 51 event began as a joke event posted on the social media page Facebook by a user named Matty Roberts on June 27, 2019, who wrote on the original event page “If we naruto run, we can move faster than their bullets. Lets [sic] see them aliens.” This led event garnered over 1.8 million responses, and spawned variety of memes involving rescuing the aliens which are supposedly kept at the Air Force base, with major corporations such as Bud Light jumping in on the trend.
Local residents, government officials and police officers were not as pleased with the response, and were concerned over massive influx of people attending the area. Roberts floated around the idea of holding a different music festival around the event entitled Alienstock, but ultimately backed down from the idea.
Passes for this Storm Area 51 Basecamp event are $51 per person and include parking, two bottles of water, a $10 food truck voucher and a commemorative lanyard. Oakenfold, who is known for performing at fantastic locations such as The Great Wall of China, Stonehenge and Mount Everest’s basecamp, headlined the Electric Daisy Carnival earlier this year.
