Soccer Mommy is back with her first new song of the year, “lucy” and shared a coded visualizer to accompany the track. The song features a darker vibe than we’re used to from Soccer Mommy, but the chorus is absolutely huge and a perfect complement to its clanging, off-kilter verses. The song will be released on a 7″, which you can pre-order on the Loma Vista webstore.
“‘lucy’ is a really fun song for me because it has a dark, evil vibe,” said Sophie Allison, principal of Soccer Mommy. “It’s a song about struggling with inner demons and your own morality, but I masked it with this scenario of being seduced by the devil. I’m really excited to share this with everyone because I think it shows a different side of my writing.”
Soccer Mommy, the name Sophie broke out in the build up to her debut album Clean, which was one of the more auspicious releases of 2018. She also released a single with Los Angeles noise-rock band HEALTH called “Mass Grave,” which showcased her ability to create music well outside the indie pop style she’s most known for. The Nashville singer-songwriter will be heading out on tour with Vampire Weekend and Wilco in the upcoming months, playing on the West Coast and the South.
