Carly Rae Jepsen Releases Upbeat Video for New Song “Want You In My Room”

Canadian pop artist Carly Rae Jepsen has released a new music video for her track “Want You In My Room,” which is featured on her most recent album released earlier this year Dedicated. This latest video was directed by Andrew Donoho who has worked with artists such as Twenty-One Pilots and Khalid.

“Want You In My Room,” begins in the eponymous room, with the singer waking up joyously from her bed, as the visuals shift across different landscapes. Jepsen is shown dancing and singing across the beach, a restaurant, a geyser and many outdoor areas, which are decorated with various parts of her room, implying that the world is meant to represent her room.

The singer is best known for her 2012 hit, “Call Me Maybe,” which landed at number one on the Billboard charts and launched the performer into stardom. Despite her second album not meeting the same amount of commercial success, the artist revitalized her image, taking control of herself and using elements of nostalgic 1980s synth pop which are present on this track, and her previous single “Julien.”

“I don’t love the way that in pop music, your body and face seem to be a big selling point,” Jepsen explained in an interview with The Guardian. “I told them, I’m 33, I’ve had years of putting my face on stuff. I want it to be purposeful. I’m not wanting to hide away but image can be everything for some artists, and I thought, God, I can’t compete with that. I feel more confident in my age and my weirdness now, and the fact that my fashion doesn’t really have anything to do with what’s fashionable. Now, I might make a bad outfit choice, but at least it’s me making the decision.”
