Saturday, Day Two of the sold out KAABOO Del Mar Festival started off with bang. Even with Saturday being the hottest day of the weekend, most attendees weathered the heat of the day to see all the early afternoon acts.
Switchfoot lead singer, Jon Foreman, took off into the crowd during numerous songs, bringing the music literally out to their fans. They kicked off their set with their newest song “Native Tongue” released this year, as well as one of their most popular hits “Meant to Live.”
Catching up with Chevy Metal, a cover band fronted by well known drummer, Taylor Hawkins from Foo Fighters, who played hits from Queen, Bowie and more with his band. Chevy Metal also included drummer Stephen Perkins from Jane’s Addiction on drums.
The Black Eyed Peas closed out the night. Without female singer, Fergie, the group performed with a backing track but took the opportunity to highlight the fact that they were actually singing and rapping live. will.i.am told the crowd that they were putting their sweat into the performance and wanted everyone to appreciate it; this was sparked after a sound issue where the backing track music was louder than the three vocalists on stage. Either way, they had a packed crowd singing along to their main hits of “Let’s Get it Started” and “Pump it” while they ended day two.
Additional acts we covered were Badflower, Blind Mellon, Bryan Adams, Sublime (with Rome), OneRepublic, Squeeze and Dave Matthews Band.
