“Global Goal Live: The Possible Dream” is a massive 10-hour music concert being planned for September 26, 2020, CNN reports. The planned event is inspired by 1985’s Live Aid and will be hosted by Global Citizen who plans to make it a one day concert event broadcasted in five continents. The concert, which aims to be the largest in “cause event history,” will support the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
As a concert-based fundraising initiative, the inaugural music event Live Aid was held on July 13 in 1985 at dual venues, London’s Wembley Stadium and Pennsylvania’s Kennedy Stadium. 35 years have passed by since the iconic concert, yet a string of unforgettable performances from exceptional artists live on, including U2, Queen, Run-DMC, Led Zeppelin and more. Under the organization of Irish singer and activist Bob Geldof and Scottish musician Midge Ure, the 1985 concert raised over $200 million to help the ongoing famine in Ethiopia.
The line-up of 2020’s grant music event will be announced later in September by Global Goal Live, who is teaming up with global CEO consulting and advisory firm Teneo. Other event contributors include music production partners, event promoter Live Nation, prominent corporations and government figures.
Global Goal Live is amping the event by stating “the campaign is being launched now because the next 18 months will shape the future of humanity.” The organizer adds, “it’s the last chance to course correct to end extreme poverty, tackle climate change and reduce inequality in time to reach the 2030 Global Goals deadline agreed to by all world leaders in 2015.”
Queen provided a glorious performance on the stage of the July 13th, 1985 Live Aid concert in Wembley Stadium, where frontman Freddie Mercury invited 75,000 attendees to sing and clap in unison. The jaw-dropping performance was filmed as one of the most important scenes in the Oscar-nominated movie Bohemian Rhapsody, which pays homage to the rock legends in 2018.
Global Citizen Festival announced a star-studded line-up last month. The separate annual one-day event will be completely free for those who, “take a series of actions to create lasting change around the world.” Global Citizen Festival 2019 will take place at Central Park in New York City on September 29, 2019.
