Justin Townes Earle announced dates for his North American tour which has 40 stops starting September 21, 2019. The tour is in support of the new album, The Saint of Lost Causes which includes Joe V. McMahan (guitar), Paul Niehaus (guitar, pedal steel), Jon Radford (drums), and co-producer Adam Bednark (bass). Justin Townes Earle will be joined by Jesse Malin, The Cerny Brothers, The Wandering Hearts, Michigan Rattlers, The Josephines, and Jonny 2 Bags on various legs of the tour.
The Saint of Lost Causes spans traditional country, blues and folk to western swing, roots-rock and boogie-woogie. Earle is focused on a different America – the disenfranchised and the downtrodden, the oppressed and the oppressors, the hopeful and the hopeless, as well as their geography.
Regarding the new album, Earle says, “I was trying to look through the eyes of America. Because I believe in the idea of America – that everybody’s welcome here and has a right to be here.” Earle tells these American stories in detail and without judgment. While some songs cite historic events, other tracks present fictionalized narratives that are no less harrowing or true-to-life.
Justin Townes Earle was born in Nashville and grew up the son of country-rock iconoclast Steve Earle, who gave him his middle name in honor of his mentor, Townes Van Zandt. Earle struggled with addiction and remarked he is “lucky to have gotten out of alive.” These days he is focused and is creating the best art of his career.
