Lucy Dacus Covers Bruce Springsteen Classic “Dancing In The Dark”

Indie rock artist Lucy Dacus has released cover of Bruce Springsteen’s classic “Dancing In The Dark,” which originally appeared on The Boss’ 1984 release Born In The U.S.A. This follows a series of holiday themed covers the artist has been releasing, with this one being made in honor of her father’s birthday, and Springsteen’s who will turn 70 on September 23.

Dacus’ cover reinvents the song, replacing the famous uptempo synthesizers on the original track, with distorted electric guitars to match her sound. Dacus remains true to her vocals on this track, creating a new spin on ther track that matches a more alternative rock style, than the pop rock that is present on the original song.

“Happy birthday to Bruce,” Dacus said in a press release, “but also happy birthday to my dad, the biggest Bruce fan I know and the reason I’ve listened to The Boss since birth. I resisted it when I was younger as a rebellion to my dad’s taste, but I have come to love his music on my own time. His lyricism is embedded in my own songwriting inextricably at this point.”

The vocalist and guitar player released her album Historian last year, which highlighted her strong guitar driven sound, along with her thematic storytelling and vocals. It was also announced that she will be part of boygenius, a trio also featuring Phoebe Bridgers and Julien Baker.

“Dacus has a completely organic style of writing music that comes straight from the stitching of her soul,” Ally Tatosian wrote in her review of the album. This impeccable trait is what so many listens are falling in love with when it comes to the somewhat newcomer to the field of indie-rock. Dacus has proven she is not one to sleep on and to keep an eye on her as she rises gracefully to the top.”
