Fall Out Boy has found an unusual ally, the rapper and producer Wyclef Jean, who appears on their latest track “Dear Future Self (Hands Up),” off of their upcoming compilation album Greatest Hits: Believers Never Die – Volume Two, which will be released November 15 via Island Records. The pair will perform this song together tonight on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
The pair also released a psychedelic music video, the shows Jean and the band at an ice cream parlor, which is shot with distorted, yet colorful, frames. At the end of the video, an ice cream cone is shown melting into a sewage vent, implying the end of summer.
The track blends elements of Fall Out Boys pop punk style, mixed in with eclectic dance hall inspired rhythms, that make this sound like a summer pop song. Wyclef Jean’s hooks appear throughout the tracks during certain breaks, which features two different sounds, from traditionally separate corners of popular music, blending together.
Fall Out Boy will be touring with Weezer and Green Day for the Hella Mega Tour, which will kick off next summer. This tour will take place across Europe and North America, beginning in Paris, France and ending in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
“To me, I remember, in the 90s, there was this one summer, and Guns and Roses, Metallica went on the stadium tour and my parents didn’t let me go to it. And I feel trapped in that forever and we wanted to …You know what I mean? But you want to recreate that memory,” Pete Wentz, Fall Out Boy’s bassist explained in the interview.” Hopefully if somebody who gets to go to the tour, I think this tour represents counter-programming, I think that the world is moving in one direction in an obvious way, or whatever. I think that this tour represents counter programming to that and it’s awesome to take part in that and be a small part of it.”
