FKA Twigs Announces New Album Magdalene for October 2019 Release

FKA Twigs will release her long-awaited album this year, today, the queen of avant-pop finally announced Magdalene is set to be out on October 25 via Young Turks. In support of the upcoming album, string of North American tour dates has been revealed. Check out the itinerary for your tickets.

Magdalene is Twigs’ sophomore album, following up her first full-length album LP1 in 2014. Over the five-year course, the singer released the M3LL155X EP in 2015 and single “Good To Love” in 2016. This year, Twigs returned with a comeback single titled “Cellphone,” which is one of the more vulnerable and haunting tracks in Magdalene. Before the announcement of the forthcoming album, FKA Twigs debuted several new songs off of Magdalene on her “Magdalene Tour” at the Red Bull Music Festival in New York and at the Los Angeles’ Palace Theatre.

The idea of the new album was hinted at with the release of “Holy Terrain,” an unlikely first collaboration with Future, and production credits of Skrillex and Jack Antonoff. In Twig’s words, the album is an “empowering, sensitive record, with a lot of feminine energy.” “Holy Terrain” finds Twigs playing a character who is searching the love that she deserves. While the rapper, from a male perspective, expresses “the downfalls as a man.” The duo contributes a sentimental, emotional but interesting tack on the album. Speaking of the new album, Pitchfork details Twig’s intention, “I never thought heartbreak could be so all-encompassing. I never thought that my body could stop working to the point that I couldn’t express myself physically in the ways that I have always loved and found so much solace. I have always practiced my way into being the best I could be, but I couldn’t do that this time, I was left with no option but to tear every process down. But the process of making this album has allowed me for the first time, and in the most real way, to find compassion when I have been at my most ungraceful, confused and fractured. I stopped judging myself and at that moment found hope in ‘Magdalene.’ To her I am forever grateful.”
