Since Charles Bradley’s death, fans were asked to submit photographs, drawings and stories via social media using the hashtag #leftuslonely, to be used to create a music video to honor the late singer. Over 500 submissions were posted and resulted in the music video “Lonely As You Are,” one of Bradley’s final recordings before his passing in 2017. Bradley sadly passed from his battle with stomach cancer, after shortly being diagnosed with stomach tumor in 2016. He was 68 years old.
Bradley’s posthumous track “Lucifer” and posthumous album Black Velvet were then released late last year. Daptone Records released touching tribute video for the late singer, directed by Jeff Broadway and Cory Bailey. The video saw Bradley speak about life, faith, and performance of an acapella version of his song “Victim of Love.” Bradley was also recently featured on the label’s 100th 45 anniversary. The A-Side of the 45 features “Hey Brother,” including the late, great Sharon Jones, Charles Bradley, Naomi Shelton, Saun & Starr and Amayo (Antibalas). The B-Side of the 45 is “Soul Fugue” by the 100 Knights Orchestra, consisting of every horn player Daptone Records has ever worked with. Daptone Records was founded eighteen years ago by Neal Sugarman and Gabriel Roth.
