EDM duo Sofi Tukker has released an insatiably seductive new single “Purple Hat” slated to be off their forthcoming EP Dancing On The People due out September 20th. This latest music offering comes after the duo’s follow up to their Grammy-nominated debut studio album Treehouse which was released last year on April 13th.
New York-based duo Sofi Tukker consists of Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern. “Purple Hat” starts off with a metronome clicking sound that briefly transitions to maracas then goes into some strings and immediate drums that kick in with infectious bass. The duo comes to play trading lyrics that come straight from the title highlighted on their latest EP.
According to Flood Magazine, the band relays that the inspiration behind the song came after they threw their “first Animal Talk party.” The band goes in-depth on the creation of “Purple Hat” saying “We started throwing these parties to bring back the wild and inclusive dancing vibe to the nightclub experience. Tuck was literally wearing a purple hat and a cheetah print shirt, people were climbing on top of people, it was over sold out and sweaty, our favorite people were packed in the booth, everyone was loose AF and feeling themselves. It was wild. Every Animal Talk party since then has been like that, and we wanted to capture that raw feeling in a song. If there was a song that included everything we are about, this would be the one.”
As previously reported on mxdwn “Sofi Tukker’s first single for the upcoming EP, “Playa Grande”, was released last May. “Playa Grande” features fellow electronic duo Bomba Estéreo. The duo will be embarking on headlining tour all over North America this fall in support of the new project. Hawley-Weld and Halpern have stayed busy throughout the first half of 2019, including a rousing set at Coachella just a few months ago.”
According to a press release the tracklist for the upcoming EP Dancing On The People is as follows:
1. Swing
2. Playa Grande (w/ Bomba Estéreo)
3. Ringless
4. Purple Hat
5. Fantasy
6. Like This
