American pop group Francis and the Lights have just dropped a new star-studded single entitled “Take Me to the Light,” featuring an all star team including Kanye West, Bon Iver BJ Burton, benny blanco, Cashmere Cat, Jeff Bhasker, and Noah Goldstein. In addition to these musicians, the new song enlists the help of Pulitzer prize winner Caroline Shaw.
The new track utilizes many power pop elements including bright synth lines, and a steady rhythm, backed by heavy gospel influences throughout the song. West and Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon trade verses with their vocals edited by various different effects throughout the song, adding in some more upbeat, albeit experimental approach to the songs.
This is not the first time that Francis and the Lights have teamed up with Bon Iver and Kanye, back in 2016 the trio released the song “Friends,” which was featured on the group’s debut studio album Farewell, Starlite! West also collaborated on the group’s song “My City’s Gone,” that same year.
In addition to these appearances, the group, most prominently their frontman Francis Farewell Starlite has appeared numerous times at Kanye West’s current Sunday Service sets. The artist contributed to West’s Sunday Service performance at Coachella 2019 earlier this year.
The band’s most recent recent album, Just For Us was released back in 2017, although the artist has collaborated with numerous artists during that time including Chance The Rapper. Starlite holds writing credits for two different projects which feature Chance The Rapper, most notably Donnie Trumpet and the Social Experiment’s Surf in 2015 and Coloring Book in 2017.
