Electric sounds control the music
Stockholm band Entombed A.D. was formed in the year of 1987 with the name Nihilist, but in 1989 the band changed their name to Entombed A.D. In 1993, the band released an album titled Wolverine Blues and the album became quite popular due to the unique style of rock and metal. The bands Motorhead, Discharge and KISS inspired the band to create a different style of music which fans appreciated throughout the years. In 2014 and 2016, Entombed A.D. released two albums titled Front and Red Dawn. Both albums became a favorite among fans and music listeners alike, and now the band is releasing a new album titled Bowels of Earth. This album displays how the band stays true to their musical roots. The biggest take away from this record is the guitar sounds by Nico Elgstrand and Guilherme Miranda as their musical skills create electrifying riffs, outstanding solos and amazing tempos with harmony. Also, while listening to the album, some of the guitar riffs and tempos do have the distinctive sound of rock music and both guitarists did a fine job displaying their skills. Drummer Olle Dahlstedt contributes to the loud and energetic music by playing rhythmic drum beats within a fast-paced musical tempo and his drumming provides the craziness the fans want to hear. The vocal style of L-G Petrov is excellent on this record because of how grungy he sounds while screaming out the lyrics of each song in full emotion and his vocal style have not changed throughout the years. Entombed A.D. continue to stay true to their style of music on Bowels of Earth and fans will not be disappointed with the album because it provides the right touch of metal music they adore.
On the album there is a song titled “Bourbon Nightmare’’ and what is seemingly intriguing about this song is how the band performs it. The song starts off with what sounds like a fun evening outside a tavern but the fuzzy feeling quickly changes to loud energetic music. The sounds from both guitars play metal music while the drum beats play rock music. During the beginning of the song, Dahlstedt has a small drum solo which can distract listeners from the elements of metal as his solo is filled with pure rock music. Also, Elgstrand and Miranda’s guitar skills are superior on this track because both play different styles of music with Miranda staying in tune with the heavy metal sound whereas Elstrand stays in tune by playing electrifying rock guitar riffs. He also has a solo that is dynamic because it provides a lighter atmosphere to the song. Meanwhile, Petrov’s vocals are low but with a grungy voice of authority, and his shrieks on this track give the listeners the idea of how dark the song is without knowing what the song is about. Fans will appreciate this song because it proves how the band’s musical taste has not changed throughout the years.
Another song which stands out on the album is titled “Fit For a King” and the reason why it stands out is because of how the song is pure metal music. The song starts off with strong guitar riffs and drum beats playing a heavy tempo while Miranda stays with the tempo by playing the same notes with a darker sound. The musical composition alone will allow listeners to dance and headbang like crazy. The guitar solo in the middle of the song is wild and electrifying because of the way Elgstrand plays the solo, allowing listeners to feel the metallic vibe he brings to the track. The vocals on this track are pretty interesting because of how Petrov is capable of keeping his vocal style low but at the same time, his singing voice remains authoritative. If fans and listeners are looking for a loud and energetic song, then they should give this track a listen to.
Also the song “I’ll Never Get Out of This World Alive” is a song fans and listeners should pay attention to because of the meaning behind the song and how well the band performs together on this track. By listening to the song, it sounds like Petrov wants to escape the negativity which exists in his world, but he does not see the negativity ending anytime soon and he comes to the realization of how he may never get away from the negative atmosphere. This song reflects on how some people may very well feel like they cannot escape the darkness of their world because there isn’t a light at the end of the tunnel they are going through. The musical composition on this track is short and bittersweet. The song starts off with brief rock drum beats by Dahlstedt, then both Elgstrand and Miranda join in by performing low and dark guitar riffs. The guitar solo Elgstrand provides on the track is bittersweet because it contributes to the excitement the band plays on this song. Petrov’s vocals are grungy and filled with emotion due to the theme of the song and at the very end, listeners can feel the desperation of defeat in his voice and the feeling leaves listeners with the impression of how ongoing the negativity is in his world.
Overall, this is a great album by Entombed A.D. because of how well the band uses the elements of rock and metal to create an album which displays the creativity the band has. Fans and listeners should give this album a listen because the album proves how the band has remained the same throughout the years.
