mxdwn PREMIERE: Black Magic Flower Power Bring the Funk on New Song “Funky Town Sex Machine”

Black Magic Flower Power offer music fans a unique take on the tried-and-true genre of funk music, blending that raw and energetic dance music with psychedelic rock. They’ve used the terms “Stoner-Disco” and “Desert-Boogie” to describe their idiosyncratic sound.

Today we’re premiering the band’s latest track, a groovy slice of disco-funk called “Funky Town Sex Machine.” The song and video serve as a perfect introduction to the band, showcasing their funk licks with vocals that wouldn’t be out of place on a rock record out of the Joshua Tree scene – which makes sense because the band calls the Sonoran Desert home when they’re not on the road.

Meanwhile, the accompanying video clip features the band’s guitarist and singer vamping away at the funkadelic guitar licks over a pastiche of vintage cars, sexy bodies and psychedelic visual patterns. The visuals set an appropriate mood for a song that features lyrics like “James Brown / Sex Machine / On the funky side of town.”

“Wanting to show the true funkadelic style of this project and for people who have not seen us live, this song and video are a glimpse into the fun and fresh world we are creating,” said the band in a statement about the new song. They play well over a hundred shows every year and are currently on tour this fall. Check out their tour dates below.
