Greg Kriesel, the bassist for The Offspring and one of its founding members, is reportedly suing his bandmates over money and rights which he feels the other two founding members have been keeping from him. The court documents allege that Bryan Holland and Kevin Wasserman have been diverting income from the group away from Kriesel, who legally owns one third of the group. The documents go on to state that Kriesel believes that last year the two decided to work together to remove Kriesel from being an equal partner and find a way to strip him of his share of the group. The three bandmates have been together since the 1980s, so this comes as a huge blow to the group and to their fans.
The Offspring has been spending time this year touring, with Kriesel not taking part in the tour. Fans had been wondering before why Kriesel was not taking part, and now it seems much clearer. Kriesel alleges that around November of last year he was told by Holland and Wasserman attempted to exclude Kriesel from all management decisions of the group and prevent him from performing with the band. He also states that the two withheld information from him regarding finances and income that he had a right to as an equal partner. According to documents, Wasserman and Holland told Kriesel that they had the right to kick him from the group and did so without going through proper legal proceedings. While it is not clear now what will happen to the band after this, it’s obvious that The Offspring is going to be drastically changed following this feud between the group’s founding members.
