Twin Shadow will not be releasing an album today, as was originally planned by the project’s mastermind George Lewis Jr., who made the announcement at the beginning of this year. Hope is not lost however, as Lewis Jr. has stated that the project is underway, which accompanies the release of new single from the project titled “Crushed.”

“I hope the song helps you understand that I needed a bit longer to live some life. It took some time, and I took that time,” Lewis Jr. said in a press release. “Thank you for your patience. It’s coming.”

This latest single carries themes of heartbreak, as Lewis Jr. sings in anguish about the effects of his psychology after the breakdown of a relationship. The instrumentals are out in full force and are engaging, but manage to keep the somber tone, as he sings: “You played up all your innocence/ And I downplayed experience/ And I can’t believe I got so dumb/ And led myself to think a kiss is love.”

The artist teamed up with alternative band alt-J and rapper Pusha T last year for the song “In Cold Blood (featuring Pusha T) (Twin Shadow Version).” This track was for alt-J’s album REDUXER, a series of reinterpretations of the group’s tracks from the album RELAXER, which held numerous guests including GoldLink, Parisian rapper Lomepal, Berlin hip hop artist Kontra K, Irish rapper Rejjie Snow, Australian artist Tuka, Puerto Rican rapper PJ Sin Suela, and London’s Little Simz.
