Experimental metal group Sunn O))) has just announced the release of Pyroclasts, a companion piece and follow up of recordings made during the sessions of Life Metal, which was released earlier this year. This upcoming project will contain four pieces of extended recording sessions and will be released on October 25th via Southern Lord Recordings.
Steve Albini, who recorded Life Metal with the band, also recorded this project at the Electrical Audio recording studios co-currently and used the same two-inch tape that album was recorded on. This version is a bit different in its mixing however, as it was mastered by Matt Colton through all analogue AAA process at Metropolis in July 2019.

These sessions were recorded as 12 minute improvised modal drones that began at the start and or end of the day’s work, to help channel creativity for the album’s recording process. Tim Midyett, T.O.S. and Hildur Guðnadóttir, in addition to the band’s musicians Stephen O’Malley and Greg Anderson played on these recordings
