A$AP Rocky has been hosting some spectacular guests such as Tyler, The Creator and Tame Impala during his live performances since his release from Swedish jail earlier this month. But his musical endeavors haven’t stopped with live performances; the rapper is back with a new single and music video titled “Babushka Boi.”
“Babushka Boy,” is an eclectic hip hop track with smooth production that rolls off A$AP Rocky’s lyricism, as he breezes through the instrumental. The instrumental and production styles are similar to the latest album Testing, as he channels the flair and sleekness of that project into this latest track.
Directed by Nadia Lee Cohen, the music video for the song is cartoonish, with a setting that appears to be out of a children’s TV show which matches up a bit with the absurdity of the track’s lyrics. A$AP Rocky and his crew who are played by A$AP Ferg, Schoolboy Q, A$AP Nast, and Kamil Abbas, are shown to be bank robbers dressed like comic book villains, in outlandish tuxedos, who get imprisoned by police officers, who are shown wearing pig masks. At the end of the video, the rapper’s crew break out of jail and eventually beat the cops, which are then ground up into sausages at a deli, which another police officer unknowingly cannibalizes.
The rapper currently has a few more live shows planned, including Rolling Loud New York, which will take place in the rapper’s home city. Many of the rapper’s European tour dates have been canceled however as a result of this recent arrest and subsequent jailing.
