Swedish Prosecutors Decline to Appeal A$AP Rocky’s Sentence

Swedish Prosecutors will not be seeking to appeal A$AP Rocky’s assault conviction, which will spare the rapper from another trial, and possibly longer sentence. Earlier this month the rapper was found guilty of assault in Stockholm Sweden after brawl broke out between members of the rapper’s entourage, and of the public, right before the rapper was expected to perform at a festival in the city.

“I have accepted the District Court’s evaluation of the evidence, in as much as the use of whole or broken bottles during the assault has not been proven,” Prosecutor Daniel Suneson stated in a press report.”After due consideration, I have chosen not to appeal the verdict.”

The rapper was sentenced to a two-year suspended sentence over the incident, but will not be serving any jail time as a result of this initial arrest. The New York rapper was charged with assaulting 19-year-old Mustafa Jafari, who was shown on camera during this altercation. Videos posted to social media show Jafari and a few friends following the rapper and his entourage around the city, even after A$AP Rocky’s camp asked to be left alone. Later videos show the altercation between both camps and include a clip of the rapper throwing Jafari on the ground.

This much-publicized arrest caught the attention of the US President, who said that he would discuss the issue with the Swedish prime minister, who was not pleased with the president publicizing this case. Since his release, he has performed on stage with Tyler The Creator at the Real Street festival in Anaheim, and with Tame Impala and the Lowlands Festival in the Netherlands.
