Prince Rama Calls It a Day, Farewell EP Rage in Peace Out Now

Sisters Taraka and Nimai Larson, collectively known as Prince Rama, have announced their disbandment in the form of a final EP titled Rage in Peace. The duo is described as a “new age” psyche-dance band with its roots in Brooklyn, New York. The announcement of the break up was as recent as August 20th, 2019.

The farewell EP is currently streaming on Soundcloud and digitally available on streaming services everywhere. For the first time, the band’s three previously released albums are available digitally: 2008’s Threshold Dances, 2009’s Zetland and 2010’s Architecture of Utopia. According to the latest Pitchfork article about the duo, the vinyl copy of the EP comes in the form of an “ash copy.” The article goes on to describe the vinyl copies of the EP as, “…featuring the bonfire-scorched remains of Prince Rama’s old records, stage outfits, video props, flyers, make-up, manifestos, Pitchfork reviews, and more.”

The reason for the band’s break up was due to Taraka receiving a phone call from Nimai disbanding the group. As previously reported on Pitchfork, Taraka puts it that Nimai relayed to her that she was, “retiring from the music scene to explore who she was outside of the band.” The three-song EP was put together by Taraka by finishing Nimai’s unfinished tracks. Taraka had this to say about the breakup:

“It took months for that phone call to sink in. I couldn’t imagine myself as anything other than in Prince Rama. It has been a part of my flesh, my blood, my soul for ten years. Nimai and I have been playing music together since high school. I realized that continuing Prince Rama without Nimai would be like continuing Guns n Roses without Slash; it just didn’t feel right. So even though this has been perhaps one of the most difficult decisions I have ever had to make, I realized I had no choice but to just fully embrace death so that the music can be free to live on in a different form.”
