The infamous heavy metal group Slipknot has had an interesting last half of 2019 so far. What started as an exciting summer with the 4th installment of the band’s Knotfest Roadshow, which features other popular metal groups such as Behemoth, Volbeat and Gojira, quickly turned into a nightmare when one of the fans died in mosh pit during the group’s set in Chicago. Most recently, the band’s lead singer and lyricist, Corey Taylor, toyed at the idea of a solo project during an interview with SiriusXM. Taylor has put out six albums with Slipknot and another six albums with the band he founded, Stone Sour, but in his entire 27-year career he has never put out a solo project. During his interview with SiriusXM Taylor said, “I’m actually giving serious thought to doing a solo album and a solo run. Obviously, it’s not going to happen for a while. I’m actually putting a band together.”
He also stated in the same interview that working on his own album won’t affect his work with Slipknot and Stone Sour, saying that he’s doing it purely out of respect. His main motivation behind the decision is the constant pestering of his fellow colleagues asking him when he will be putting out his own project, once he gave some thought to it, he came to the conclusion that if he doesn’t do it now, he may never do it. Although the news is exciting for fans, it’s probably going to be a while before any music is released. With the success of Slipknot’s 2019 album, We Are Not Your Kind, the band has announced a major UK tour and is scheduled to perform out until February of 2021, which Taylor stated is the most likely time for the solo project.
