Kim Schifino of Matt and Kim Suffers Torn ACL (Again), Band Will Continue 10 Year Anniversary Tour

Kim Schifino, of the indie mpop duo Matt and Kim, suffered a torn ACL at the Maha Music Festival in Omaha last weekend, after the band’s high energy performance. Despite this injury, the duo which consists of her and Matt Johnson, will continue their Grand 10 Year Celebration Tour later this year. Schifino tore the ACL on her right now. The previous injury was an ACL and meniscus tear on her left knee.

“Kim’s the most badass person I know and a true performer. And in the saying ‘the show must go on,’ she has gone directly into physical therapy and her doctor says with intensive work she will be ready to go for the GRAND anniversary tour this fall,” Johnson stated in a press release.”As incredibly sad as she is about this injury, she was ever more sad at the prospect of missing this tour so we are proud to say it will happen.”

This is not the first time that the drummer has suffered from a torn ACL while performing. Back in 2017, Schifino tore her ACL during a performance at Mexico’s Vaiven Festival that year, after spreading her legs out to the sides to avoid jumping on a fan. She remarkably, continued to perform for five songs, for which Johnson remarked: “She is a motherfucking badass for making it through those five songs!”

Johnson went on to remark on this incident in an interview with mxdwn last year:

“With Kim, she was going through physical therapy pretty much every day. All of the things that come with it, like just helping her move around, we didn’t get to work for months. It was just…I don’t remember what happened those months other than concentrating on getting Kim better. ”
