A lawsuit involving Ariana Grande’s “God is a woman” music video has been dropped after both parties reportedly reached a settlement agreement. The lawsuit, which was started by artist Vladimir Kush, alleged that the imagery in the music video stole from Kush’s painting “The Candle.” In the music video Grande is depicted in a variety of scenes from paintings and other media, at one point pictured inside of a candle. This is what sparked the lawsuit, as the image of Grande in the candle is incredibly similar to Kush’s painting. The lawsuit began at the start of this year and reached a conclusion this past week when a resolution was made between Kush and Grande’s legal teams.
Ariana Grande has had a huge few months in terms of commercial success, releasing two albums that were incredibly well received and then going on to headline Coachella all in the span of one year. It started when Grande released her album Sweetener last August, which spawned the hit songs “God is a woman” and “No Tears Left To Cry.” From there, the singer teased fans with another album before dropping Thank U, Next in early 2019. Grande then spent the rest of the year touring and performing at festivals, while her music dominated the charts in the early portion of 2019. Now that the singer has had these legal issues solved, hopefully she can take some time to enjoy herself after such a busy year.
