Experimental pop artist Banks has released a new lyric video for her single “Contaminated,” which was originally released off her studio album III, which debuted last month. This song was produced by BJ Burton, who has worked with Bon Iver and Francis and the Lights in the past.
The visuals for “Contaminated” features a woman doing a contemporary dance by herself, as her body and several rocks are painted with a mixture of green and pink hues. The lyrics for this synth heavy track are shown along with the video, and tell a story of heartbreak and toxicity of being in n unstable relationship.
“‘Contaminated’ is about being addicted to a toxic relationship. The more you give, the less of yourself you become,” Banks explained in a press release.
Banks launched her career back in 2014 with her debut album Goddess, which received positive reviews from a majority of critics. Many have praised her unique blend of trip hop, electronica, pop and R&B for creating her own unique sound. However some other reviewers, have also noted that the artist, while having potential still has some room to grow.
“Banks has potential, with her singer-songwriter flair and leftfield production and sampling. However, bad production choices, overuse of auto-tune, repetitive lyrics and general blandness brings down the experience of III,” Mark Young, mxdwn reviewer explained. “In conclusion, the music of III is just above room temperature, but not hot enough to trigger the thermostat, and certainly not enough to spark a fire.
